Employers! Make Sure You Have The New I-9 Forms.

March 22, 2013 by Stephanie Potash

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

On March 8, 2013, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released a new Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9.  The new forms are 2 pages long, have expanded instructions on how to fill it out, and new fields for phone number, email address, and foreign passport.

For all new hires, employers should use the new Form I-9 with revision date 03/08/13.  To make sure you are using the correct form, the revision date is on the lower left corner of the new form.  Employers may continue to use previously valid Forms I-9 (Revised on 08/07/09Y and 02/02/09N) for 60 days until May 7, 2013.  After 05/07/13, employers must use the new Form I-9, revised on 3/8/13.  If an employer needs to do a re-verification or re-hire of an employee the new Form I-9 must be used.

For more information and the new I-9 form please visit the USCIS website:
